6 Best Casio Pro Trek watches with Triple Sensor or Quadsensor

Interested in buying a Casio Pro Trek Triple Sensor or Quadsensor watch in 2022? You are probably looking for a watch for mountaineering, climbing, trekking, or hiking, outdoor activities, and in this Casio collection, you will find very good options to carry out all these activities.

Casio’s Pro Trek collection may not be as popular as other options, such as Casio G-Shock watches (or Garmin or Suunto watches), but it offers very interesting watches: Triple Sensor models and many more functions with a price well below that of its equivalents in the G-Shock range.

Keep that in mind that you’re only going to lose G-Shock’s high shock/drop resistance and possibly its water resistance to 200 meters (they’re usually only 100 meters).

Casio Pro Trek watches are more traditional in design than G-Shocks and have smaller dimensions, specifically, they are thinner and lighter than most G-Shocks. You have all the information in Casio G-Shock vs Casio Pro Trek: Comparison Which watch should I buy?

  • Within the Pro Trek watch collection, we will find the classic Casio Pro Trek models and the Casio Pro Trek Smart models with Wear OS by Google. We are going to focus mainly on the classic models, but we will also recommend one of the models with Wear OS.

A short history of the Casio Pro Trek range

The history of Casio’s Pro Trek collection dates back to 1994, the date of the release of the first Triple Sensor Pro Trek, the ATC-1100. Since then Casio has been adding improvements to its new models:

  • The year 2000: Model PRG-40 with height measurement up to 10,000 meters.
  • The year 2002: Triple Sensor version 2 in the PRG-50.
  • The year 2003: first Pro Trek with analog movement, the PRG-60.
  • The year 2005: The first model with solar charge and radio control, the PRW-1000.
  • The year 2008: PRW-1500 model with water resistance up to 200 meters.
  • The year 2010: PRW-5000, the first Pro Trek with Tough Movement.
  • The year 2013: PRW-3000 with Triple Sensor version 3.
  • The year 2019: PRT-B50, watch with Quad Sensor, and connection with smartphone.

If we analyze a little how the Pro Trek watches have evolved, we realize that they have gone from being the typical digital Casio watch to having a very complete range of watches with a classic digital analog design.

Models with Quad Sensor and Bluetooth connection have begun to appear to connect them to the smartphone. They are still not smartwatches, but you can transfer all your data to your mobile. The exception is found at this point in the Pro Trek Smart watches with the Wear OS operating system, which is smartwatches.

Casio Pro Trek vs Casio Pro Trek Smart

The name is pretty self-explanatory. On the one hand, we have the classic Casio watches that are not smart and on the other hand the watches with Google’s Wear OS operating system that are smart.

Are some better than others? They are different. We still prefer the classic Pro Trek models because they’re reliable, have much longer battery life, and don’t rely on a third party to update the OS.

the classic Pro Trek model’s half-life is much, much longer, decades. They have sensors, they give the measurements, they give you the time… It is the quintessence of Casio.

The Pro Trek Smart models have their days numbered. You buy them and you know that in 4 or 5 years the operating system will be obsolete and you will be able to install more apps, it will not have security updates, the maps will stop working… the clock will become a paperweight.

Smart models have countless functions, and they will do wonders for us for the first few years, but in the long run, they will last much less… And their price is high. Casio has had to get on the bandwagon of the fashion of these watches, of the Apple Watch, but that does not mean that we have to do it…

  • The main reason to choose a regular Casio Pro Trek watch is that they are reliable, you don’t have to charge them every 2 or 3 days and they can possibly last you a lifetime if you take good care of them.

Casio Pro Trek Triple Sensor and Quadsensor Technology

If you buy a Casio Pro Trek watch, you know that it will have Triple Sensor technology inside: The watch will have three mini sensors that record direction, height, atmospheric pressure, and temperature with excellent precision. Right now they are with version 3.

  1. Altimeter: Uses data from an atmospheric pressure sensor. As soon as there is a change in atmospheric pressure, the altimeter registers a height difference. The watch adds the height of the meters climbed and saves up to 30 records. Measurement range: -700 to 10,000 meters. You can measure the cumulative ascent or descent and the maximum (and minimum) altitude or use an altitude difference value.
  2. Barometer and thermometer: In this sensor, Casio has put a silicone layer on a hollow body without air. This layer reacts to changes in pressure by expanding or contracting. Temperature range from -10.0 to 60.0° C and 260 to 1,100 hPa on the barometer. An increase in barometric pressure indicates an improvement in weather conditions. On the contrary, it indicates a worsening of conditions. It is able to predict the temperature of the destination based on the temperature at your current location.
  3. Digital compass: A direction sensor determines the direction of magnetic north (and degrees) and displays them on the screen. It can be used in conjunction with a traverse map, align it and orient yourself. You can correct the magnetic declination and perform a bidirectional calibration. Bearing memory allows you to temporarily store a bearing reading and display that reading for use as a reference when taking subsequent readings. 60 seconds of continuous reading; 16 addresses; angle value 0° to 359°.

Triple Sensor Version 3 technology already has a few years on its back. It was released by Casio in the year 2013. Pro Trek fans are expecting an update to version 4… it will come at some point. Casio works at its own pace.

  1. Casio Triple Sensor Version 1: Released in 1994. Battery Operated, Ability to measure directions, barometric pressure/altitude, and temperatures.
  2. Casio Triple Sensor version 2: A triple sensor with a solar rechargeable battery system that provides the necessary energy to perform the sensor measurements.
  3. Casio Triple Sensor version 3: 95% smaller and more energy efficient (90%). With improved measurement accuracy. 1-meter altimeter measurement. 1.0-second measurement.

What could you incorporate in version 4 of this technology? Well, for example, the blocking of the altimeter and the measurement of the MSLP (Mean Sea Level Pressure – Average sea level pressure).

Quad sensor? In the latest models that Casio is releasing, the B70 Series and the B50 Series, they are incorporating their Quadsensor technology.

Watches with quad sensors have an Altimeter, compass, barometer, temperature, and 3-axis accelerometer, which means they can count the steps you take. All that information is then transmitted via Bluetooth to the Casio app on your smartphone. With this they also manage to offer you the following data:

  • Route recording: The application automatically records the altitude data of the watch and the GPS data of the smartphone.
  • Calories Burned: The app can display calories burned calculated from step count and altitude data.
  • Location Indicator: You can use the watch buttons to save your current location in the app.
  • Customizable mode/display: Through the application, you can activate or deactivate the modes of the watch and change the sequence in which the modes appear on the screen.
  • Automatic altitude adjustment (four times a day): The altitude measurement values in the watch are automatically adjusted based on altitude data acquired from the smartphone’s GPS.
  • Automatic time adjustment (four times a day): The watch connects to the app to automatically download global time updates, such as time zone changes and daylight saving time (DST) data by country.
  • Mobile phone finder: With the clock, you can activate a sound alert on the mobile phone even if it is in silent mode. This helps locate the phone if it is lost.

Pro Trek B70 Series and B50 Series? They are cheap models with very good technology, but with some shortcomings that we will indicate later.

What other features should you look for in a Casio Pro Trek watch?

Well, it depends a bit on your needs and what you are going to use it for.

  • Pro Trek PRT-B70 Series: With Quad Sensor, smartphone connection, and resistance up to 200 meters. With data on fishing, tides, sunrise and sunset, and moon phases. Count the steps. Perfect for fishermen. It does not have solar or Multiband 6 charging.
  • Pro Trek PRT-B50 Series: With Quad Sensor and smartphone connection. We lose the data on tides, moles, and fishing time and it only has 100 meters of water resistance. It does not have solar charging or Multiband 6. Perfect for hiking.
  • Pro Trek PRW-60 and PRW-50 Series: same functions, only the dial design (indices or Arabic numerals) changes. Triple Sensor, and Multi-Band 6 radio-controlled and solar-charged. Both for trekking and mountaineering.

We lose Bluetooth, data on fishing, tides, sunrise and sunset, moon phases, or count steps. Perfect for hiking and trekking. Small and slim. The PRW-3100 are very similar in design and functionality. The PRG-330 is a step-down, but it’s the same design (no solar charging or multiband 6).

  • Pro Trek Smart: range of watches with Google’s Wear OS operating system. They are not bad watches and they offer GPS and maps. Problem with them? The operating system updates (it is possible that in 4 years the clock will be obsolete). Casio offers the WSD-F30, WSD-F21HR, or WSD-F20. It has a TFT LCD screen, water resistance to 50 meters, optical sensor (heart rate), compass sensor (magnetic), pressure sensor (atmospheric pressure, altitude), accelerometer, gyrometer, or Bluetooth connectivity. The battery only lasts 1-2 days. Perfect for controlling all kinds of sports activities.

Depending on the country where you are you will find more or fewer models. In Japan and the United States, they have a wider range of models.

Casio Pro Trek watches: prices

In the case of Pro Trek watches, we have rather modest prices on almost all models. Only lately Casio is jumping on the vine with watches with better manufacturing quality with sapphire crystal, titanium straps, and others.

It is usually easy to find Casio Pro Trek watches at significant price reductions at dealers. The official Casio online store is usually more expensive.

Pro Trek Smart models with Wear OS operating system are in the range of 500 dollars.

Dry Pro Trek models usually cost between 200 and 300 dollars and all offer Triple Sensor. For example the PRW-30 or the PRW-50. Then the prices go up a little if we put sapphire crystal or a titanium strap, and can reach 500, 600 dollars like the PRW-50T-7AER.

  • For the price of a Casio Pro Trek watch with Triple Sensor you don’t buy a Casio G-shock watch with the same sensors. The closest is the Casio G-Shock Rangeman 9400.

What are the best Casio Pro Trek watches of the year 2022?

1.-Casio Pro Trek PRG-340

Casio Pro Trek PRG-340 Best Casio Pro Trek watches with Triple Sensor or Quadsensor

It can be purchased on the official Casio website.

  • Fully automatic LED light
  • Cold resistant (-10°C)
  • Tough Solar Solar Power System
  • Mineral crystal
  • Sustainable resin case, cover, and bracelet
  • Low battery indicator
  • Water resistance rating (10 bar)
  • Accuracy: 15 seconds per month
  • Dimensions: 54.7 x 51.7 x 15.1mm
  • Weight 54 grams

The successor to the legendary Casio Pro Trek PRG-240, with a few improvements compared to this model:

  • It is narrower and thinner than the PRG-240 (54.7 × 51.7 × 15.1 mm vs 57.3 × 50.9 × 15.3 mm)
  • It is lighter (54 grams vs 66 grams).
  • The front light button is bigger
  • The left side sensor is smaller now
  • Buttons are easier to press
  • It has the new version Triple Sensor Version 3: it allows altitude measurements of 1 meter in intervals of 1 second (compared to intervals of 5 meters and 5 seconds in the PRG-240) and continuous readings of up to 60 seconds (compared to 20 seconds on the PRG-240).
  • The urethane case and band are made from biomass plastic from castor oil and the strap from biomass plastic from corn.

It is a watch designed for hikers and climbers who do not want a smartwatch connected to their smartphones. Worth. If you’re coming from the Casio Pro Trek PRG-240, this is an upgrade you’ll appreciate for the improved sensors. Its Duplex LCD screen is one of its big bets, along with its ease of use and resistance.

It has a classic design that hasn’t changed much, and we can only wait a few years to see if the urethane case and strap made from biomass plastic hold up well over time.

It is a watch with a fairly large case, although thinner than that of the PRG-240. It is comfortable, it gives a feeling of strength and its dial is one of the most legible that Casio has.

That they have added quick-release straps is a success. Its rotating bezel works really well. Its buttons are very easy to press.

It has solar charging, sensor data recording, sunrise and sunset times, and a fairly powerful and automatic LED light.

Missing? Multi-Band 6, to synchronize the time automatically, a pity.

In favor:

  • Highly readable Duplex LCD display
  • comfortable and light
  • Very precise sensors (Triple Sensor Version 3)
  • Very easy to use
  • Watch lays flat for use with a map
  • Large, easy-to-press buttons
  • Quick release strap
  • rotating bezel

Against:

  • The official price is somewhat high if you buy it without offers
  • Without Multi-Band 6

2.-Casio Pro Trek PRG-240: classic design, solar, and with Duplex LCD digital screen

  • Solar power system
  • Low battery indicator
  • Universal time function
  • Water resistance rating (10 bar)
  • Compass
  • Altimeter 10,000m
  • Barometer (260 / 1,100 hPa)
  • Thermometer (-10°C / +60°C)
  • Button sound on/off
  • Cold resistant (-10°C)
  • Stopwatch – 1/100 sec. – 24 hours
  • Mineral crystal
  • Resin strap and buckle
  • Direction rotating bezel

One of the classic Pro Trek watches with that characteristic and bulky design. It is quite large, but it is very light thanks to its resin construction.

The main claim of this model is its large digital screen with everything specularly legible thanks to the multi-color duplex LCD (the screen elements are chromatically distinguished from each other). You just have to have a large wrist to carry it with ease.

It is possibly the Pro Trek that best represents the adventurous spirit of this Casio collection. And without a doubt, it is the one that offers the best quality-price functions.

It has solar charging, Triple Sensor, a rotating bezel (great!), and even indicates the sunrise and sunset. It is only waterproof to 100 meters and does not have radio frequency synchronization.

  • If you want something a little cheaper you can always buy the Casio Pro Trek PRG-270. Its screen is somewhat smaller and the design is somewhat different. It does not have a duplex LCD.

In favor:

  • Highly readable duplex LCD display
  • Tri-Sensor
  • with solar charge
  • Light
  • Ease of use and large buttons
  • With sunrise and sunset data

Against:

  • Large clock
  • Only 100 meters of water resistance
  • No synchronization by multiband 6

3- Casio Pro Trek PRW-30: Solar and Multiband 6 with highly readable digital display. Perfect for men and women

Casio Pro Trek PRG-30

Buy On eBay

  • Super LED light, fully automatic
  • Cold resistant (-10°C)
  • Solar power system
  • 12/24 hour timekeeping
  • Resin strap and buckle
  • Low battery indicator
  • Time accuracy at normal temperature: ±15 seconds per month (without signal calibration)

It really is a breath of fresh air in Casio’s Pro Trek range. If you don’t like the data-filled screens, huge cases, and big watches that Casio has us used to, the Casio Pro Trek PRW-30 is a great option packed with good features.

It has a completely digital dial design, with very legible digits and with all the information that interests us from the sensors at a single touch of a button. The strap is correct, very comfortable, and with quick release.

It has Tough Solar (we forgot to charge it) and Multiband 6 (always synchronized time). It also tells us when the sun rises and sets and has very precise third-generation sensors.

Compared to other ProTrek models, it lacks a greater 200M water resistance, an indication of lunar phases or low tide, or even an indicator of better fishing hours. It also does not have Bluetooth connectivity like the PRT-B70.

Perhaps this model, the Casio Pro Trek PRW-30, would need to have a sapphire crystal, a steel case, and a titanium strap, but then it would not cost less than 250 dollars and we would have to spend between 400 and 500 dollars as other models sold in Japan.

If you want something cheaper with the same dial design, you have the PRG-330 for less than 200 dollars. It has Tough Solar but not Multiband 6.

In favor:

  • Simple design and highly legible digits on a digital display
  • Very light
  • Slim and with a relatively small box compared to other models
  • quick release strap
  • With Triple Sensor (high precision), Tough Solar, and Multiband 6
  • Record of heights and indicator of sunset and sunrise
  • Cold resistant down to -10º C
  • Excellent price for everything it offers

Against:

  • Only 100 meters of water resistance
  • Mineral glass instead of sapphire
  • With a titanium strap and stainless steel case, it would be perfect (but it would be more expensive)
  • No Bluetooth connectivity (can be really good though)
  • The bezel with the cardinal points is not rotatable like in other models
  • The screen in the negative is less visible than in positive

4- Casio Pro Trek PRW-50FC: Analog-digital solar and Multiband 6 watch.

CASIO PRO Trek PRW-50FC-1JF [Climber Line Climber Line PRW -50 Field Composite Band Model Arabic Index]
47 Reviews

It is a digital-analog model with a classic design and small dimensions for this type of watch. Perfect for climbers. It has very good digit and dial visibility. The negative screen is not visible at certain angles, but it is quite legible.

The manufacturing is premium with sapphire crystal, steel and resin strap, and bezel with IP finish, and that shows in the price, but you can always choose one of its brothers with a resin strap and mineral glass that are cheaper and they have the same functions. Or you can choose the PRW-60 line without numbers and with only indices.

It lacks some functions such as Bluetooth connectivity, an indication of sunset and sunrise, tides, fishing time, lunar data, or a step counter like the PRT-B70, but it has solar charging, multiband 6, and a very reliable Triple Sensor. Heading memory is missing.

You can choose a lot of options in Pro Trek lines: PRW-50Y-1A, PRW-50Y-1B, PRW-60-2A, PRW-60Y-1A with resin strap and different colors on the dial with positive and negative screens; the PRW-60T-7A with a titanium bracelet and resin case or the PRW-50FC-1ER with a stainless steel and resin case and strap, bezel with IP finish or sapphire crystal.

In favor:

  • Simple design and highly legible Arabic numerals
  • Light and with a simple and timeless design
  • Very comfortable steel and resin strap
  • Sapphire crystal and IP bezel finish
  • Slim and with a relatively small box compared to other models
  • With Triple Sensor (high precision), Tough Solar, and Multiband 6
  • height record
  • Cold resistant down to -10º C
  • Excellent price for everything it offers (models with mineral crystal and resin strap)
  • The Smart Access crown is very comfortable to use, as are the sensor buttons

Against:

  • Only 100 meters of water resistance
  • No Bluetooth connectivity (can be really good though)
  • lumen could be better
  • The bezel is not rotatable
  • No heading memory, fish indicator, sunset/sunrise, or tides

5- CASIO Pro Trek PRT-B50-1ER: Quadsensor Bluetooth Watch

Casio Men's Pro Trek Bluetooth Connected Quartz Sport Watch with Resin Strap, Black, 22.2 (Model: PRT-B50-1CR)
804 Reviews
Casio Men's Pro Trek Bluetooth Connected Quartz Sport Watch with Resin Strap, Black, 22.2 (Model: PRT-B50-1CR)
  • Quad Sensor (Thermometer, Altimeter/Barometer, Digital compass, Step counter), Smartphone Link (Bluetooth Connection Compatible with IOS and Android Smartphones), Activity Tracker
  • Hand Retraction function, Sunrise/Sunset time display, world time (city swapping), double LED light (Auto light), resin case and bezel, resin Band
  • Mineral glass, Direction bezel, 100-meter water resistance, Low-temperature resistant (–10°C/14°f), power saving: Auto sensor sleep state entry after fixed period of non-activity. Magnetic declination correction
  • World time, 1/100-second stopwatch, Countdown timer, 5 daily alarms, hourly time signal, Full auto-calendar (to year 2099)
  • 12/24-hour format, Button operation tone on/off, Approx. Battery life: 2 years on CR2025; Measuring range: 260 to 1,100 hPa (7.65 to 32.45 inHg)

One of the cheapest and most modern Casio Protrek models. With Quadsensor and Bluetooth connectivity. If it had solar charging and Multiband 6 it would be the perfect watch, but Casio always leaves us with honey on our lips.

It is a watch with Bluetooth connectivity, and a step counter, and is very easy to configure with the Casio Pro Trek app. You can also save your location in the app to show it on a map.

It is a digital-analog model with a classic design from the collection (it is available in various colors and with a negative or positive screen). Big buttons, thick… for big wrists. Probably not the best option to wear under clothing and take it off easily.

You will find mineral glass instead of sapphire glass, but at this price, we did not expect anything else.

It is a pity that the Arabic numerals do not fluoresce (the hour and minute hands do). The LCD screen looks good. It has light.

In favor:

  • Very cheap
  • Classic analog-digital design
  • Comfortable
  • With Bluetooth connectivity
  • Step counter and sunrise and sunset data
  • Very easy to set up with the Casio app
  • Quad sensor (altimeter, compass, barometer, temperature, and 3-axis accelerometer)

Against:

  • Large clock
  • No solar charging or Multiband 6
  • No lume in numbers
  • Only 100 meters of water resistance
  • No tide data, moon phases

6- Casio Pro Trek PRT-B70-1CR: With fishing time, Quadsensor and Bluetooth

Casio Men's Pro Trek Bluetooth® Connected Angler Line Sports Watch with Resin Strap, Black, 22.5 (Model: PRT-B70-1CR)
  • 200 M Water Resistance
  • Quad Sensor (Bearing / Altitude-Barometic Pressure, Temperatue & Step Count)
  • Bluetooth "Phone Link" allows you to connect to your smart phone to access special features and functions
  • World Time (38 Time Zones / 38-Cities) w/ Daylight Saving On/Off & Home City / World Time City Swapping
  • Moon Data & Tide Graph

The PRT-B70 watches are a vitaminized version of the PRT-B50. They have all the goods of the previous ones and also add tide graphs, lunar data, fishing time, and an impressive 200 meters of water resistance. It’s a quad-sensor watch.

If it had solar charging and Multiband 6 it would be the perfect watch and possibly much more expensive than it is. It is also a digital analog model that is available in various colors and with a negative and positive screen.

It is again a big and thick but light watch. All functionality is easily accessed with the buttons and it is easily configured with Bluetooth and the Casio app.

It is the Pro Trek that offers more features at the moment. Being able to send all the information to the phone is a plus to control your excursions. And it is the perfect watch for fishermen:

If you like fishing, connect to the Casio app and start browsing the 3,000 ports and fishing spots around the world that you would like to go to: it will give you information on the best times to fish, a tide graph, sunrise and sunset times, and moon phase data.

In favor:

  • Excellent price
  • Classic analog-digital design
  • Comfortable
  • With Bluetooth connectivity
  • Step counter and sunrise and sunset data
  • Fishing data, tides, and moon phases
  • Very easy to set up with the Casio app
  • Quad sensor (altimeter, compass, barometer, temperature, and 3-axis accelerometer)

Against:

  • Large clock
  • No solar charging or Multiband 6

Conclusion: Why should you buy a Casio Pro Trek watch?

The truth is that in these times when everything is throwaway, finding watches like the Casio Pro Trek or Casio G-Shock watches that can be with you for decades is a breath of fresh air.

We do not want to be charging the watch every 2 or 3 days, we want a robust watch with Triple Sensor, with solar charge, with Multiband 6… and if possible with sapphire crystal and some premium material in the case or straps such as titanium or steel.

We must forget about the advanced functions that smartwatches offer us (may the Pro Trek Smart range forgive us), but with what watches currently cost, it is best to buy a model that is an investment in the future, that is reliable in the field, in our outings to go trekking or climbing.

In short, we do not want to lose the battery at the most inopportune moment, we do not want the operating system to stop updating in 4 or 5 years. Welcome to the world of Pro Trek or G-Shock.

What other options can we consider with features like those offered by these Pro Trek models?

In addition to the Casio G-shock models, we can consider buying some of the Citizen Eco-Drive watches. Some have a good number of sensors, such as the Promaster Altichron watches: they measure pressure and altitude and have an electronic compass…

You can also opt for a really cheap Casio model like the Casio SGW-100, a watch with compass, thermometer, cold resistant and that can be submerged up to 200M.

And if you are looking for something more classic, you can go for the Seiko Prospex Alpinist SPB121J1, an automatic mechanical watch perfect for hiking and trekking.
